How to Use Protection Mode, a SteelSeries Keyboard Feature

Avoid misclicks and save your powerful cooldowns with our exclusive new feature for Apex Pro Gen 3 keyboards, Protection Mode.

Don't you just hate it when your finger slides over from E and brushes against R, and your instant cast Ultimate ability with a 180-second cooldown goes off way before the fight starts?

With new Protection Mode, say goodbye to accidental "fat-fingering." This groundbreaking SteelSeries-exclusive feature is now available for all Apex Pro Gen 3 keyboard owners (make sure to update to the latest firmware!)

The novelty of OmniPoint 3,0 switches brings out improvements to the world's fastest keyboards, which just got smarter.

Let's see how you can enable Protection Mode and what the benefits are in order to save your cooldowns — and your sanity.

How to enable Protection Mode

Head over to the Engine tab in SteelSeries GG, and select your keyboard from the gear list. In the configuration menu, click on the Actuation tab up top. Now, when you select keys, you can mark them with blue shields indicating Protection Mode. See them on the left, similarly to how assigning Rapid Trigger works.

Let's say your Ultimate is on R, commonly in MOBA games. You don't want to accidentally press R when tapping other keys, so you put a shield on it. Now, pressing any keys that surround your shielded key, such as E, or T, or F — you get the idea — will reduce the sensitivity of R by a significant margin.

You can set Protection Mode to as many keys as you want, or if there are other important keys to press in various places, such as Grenades, you can assign them as you wish. You can draw a box to capture as many keys as you want to adjust, or use the tools right above the keyboard to make your selections.

Benefits of Protection Mode

As you may use really low actuation levels (highly sensitive presses that are under 1MM), it may be easy to accidentally set off abilities you don't intend. Now, you don't have to sacrifice accuracy if you're someone who prefers that kind of playstyle.

When Protection Mode is enabled, it reduces the sensitivity of keys that surround the one you pressed. This will improve your accuracy and reduce misinputs, so you won't be firing off abilities or powers you did not intend to use.

Make sure to put that shield on important keys you don't want to accidentally set off.
